The Hong Kong Institute of Arbitrators is offering suitably qualified professionals a 2-day course leading to entry to the Institute as an Associate. Applicants should possess a university degree or other recognised professional qualifications and the Institute retains its discretion to decide on the suitability of the applicant.
The course will be held on 19 and 20 July 2019. There will be a pre-course assignment to be handed in on or before 18 July 2019 and an examination in the form of assignment which must be handed by 20 August 2019.
The course will be based on the Hong Kong Arbitration Ordinance (Cap 609). Subjects covered in this course include:
- Arbitration in the dispute resolution spectrum
- Arbitration clauses
- Applicable law
- Constitution of the tribunal
- Powers of the arbitrators
- Content of the Award
- Enforcement of the Award
The course director is Louise Barrington, JD, LLM, FCIArb, Chartered Arbitrator (2001). She is an independent arbitrator who has taught Arbitration and other subjects at Chinese University and City University of Hong Kong, and directed ICC Asia. She is founder and director of the Vis East Moot in Hong Kong. Louise will be joined by a number of other experienced arbitrators and counsel to offer insight into the law and practice of arbitration in Hong Kong.
Fee: HK$3,800 including course materials, and the examination fee.
