Women in Arbitration: How to deal with Unconscious Bias?
Event Start Date: 30/05/2018 Event End Date: 30/05/2018
ArbitralWomen Participation: Cecilia Azar, Andrea Kay Bjorklund, Diana Gárate.
“Unconscious bias” refers to the attitudes or stereotypes that affect our understanding, perception, actions and decisions in an unconscious manner. Studies show that even people who consciously aim to behave without prejudice still possess hidden preferences, prejudices and/or stereotypes—developed over the course of a lifetime—that impact the way they navigate both daily life and the workplace. These unconscious biases, and the behaviours and decisions to which they lead, can have far-reaching consequences in our organisations, often disadvantaging those subject to negative unconscious biases, and preventing organisations from maximizing the potential of their workforce and fully leveraging opportunities for success. Please join us for a panel discussion on the way in which unconscious bias operates in the legal profession, and specifically in the context of international arbitration.
